Sony Ericsson Releases Developer Kit for Xperia X1 Smartphone

Sony Ericsson has released a Windows Mobile Software Developer Kit (SDK) for its upcoming Xperia X1 smartphone. The Xperia X1 is the first product under Sony Ericsson's new premium sub-brand Xperia, and can be personalised through its nine panel user interface.

"Sony Ericsson is committed to providing its customers with rich, open content environment to make their mobile experience more enjoyable and entertaining," said Rikko Sakaguchi , CVP and Head of Creation and Development at Sony Ericsson. "Making the Windows Mobile SDK available for free to developers and mobile content creators will accelerate the development of new panels and applications for the Xperia X1, offering consumer choice and personalisation.

The company also confirmed that it is on track for a fourth quarter release for the handset following recent rumours of delays to the project.

The handset, Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile based phone is being manufactured by Taiwan based HTC.

  • Full set of developer guidelines - Getting Started documentation including overviews, system requirements, set-up information, and walkthroughs that help developers learn about the Sony Ericsson SDK for Windows Mobile 6.
  • API reference documentation related to the specifics of developing XPERIA Panels.
  • Tutorials - giving developers a “hands-on” introduction to the SDK and the tools needed to build applications on it.
  • Sample Code - the Beta SDK ships with several sample projects to help developers quickly start their development projects.
  • Additional developer support - this is provided via the Sony Ericsson Developer World website and includes XPERIA Panels testing information and community discussion forum.
